Best Paint Colours for North-Facing Rooms

Difficulty 1/10
Tools Samples / daylight check

North-facing rooms need warmth and testing

North-facing light can make colours look cooler, flatter or greyer. The solution is not always bright white; often it is a warmer undertone and better lighting.

Good directions

  • Warm whites and soft neutrals.
  • Muted greens, clay tones and warm greys.
  • Deep colours if you want a cosy room rather than a bright one.
  • Good lamp light to support the colour at night.

Tip

Paint samples on card and move them around the room. One wall can behave very differently from another.
