Design Studio Ideas for Spare Rooms, Corners and Garden Rooms

A design studio does not need to be a perfect blank room. The useful version is usually a spare-room wall, a quiet corner, a converted outbuilding or a flexible workspace that can change with the project.

Start with the work surface, then plan storage around what you actually use: samples, sketchbooks, swatches, tools, chargers, printer space and flat lay space. Keep one clean wall or pinboard for moodboards, and give yourself task lighting that can be moved as the work changes.

For smaller rooms, use shallow shelves, wall rails and folding surfaces. For garden rooms or larger spaces, split the room into thinking, making and storage zones so it stays usable rather than becoming a dumping ground.
