Fence repairs range from a loose board to a panel that needs replacing. The key is to check whether the damage is local, or whether posts, rails or ground fixings have started to fail.
Safety Note
Check boundaries before changing shared fencing. Stop if posts are rotten below ground, leaning badly, close to services or carrying more load than you expected. Wear gloves and eye protection when removing old fixings or cutting treated timber.

- Inspect posts, rails and panels before buying parts.
- Remove loose, split or rotten timber carefully.
- Match board thickness, timber treatment and fixing type.
- Clamp replacement pieces before drilling pilot holes.
- Use outdoor-rated screws or fixings.
- Treat cut ends and exposed timber.
- Check the panel after wet or windy weather.
When to Replace Instead
Replace the panel or post if rot is widespread, the frame is twisted, or the fence moves when pushed lightly.
