Project Overview
Pressure washing looks simple, but the wrong nozzle, distance or angle can mark paving, lift jointing, force water behind seals or strip timber. Start gently and test first.
Safety Note
Use eye protection, sturdy footwear and RCD protection for electric machines. Keep plugs, extension leads and sockets away from water. Never use a pressure washer from a ladder, and never spray people, pets, windows, outdoor sockets or fragile surfaces.
Method
- Clear loose debris and move fragile pots or furniture.
- Choose the gentlest suitable nozzle or patio attachment.
- Test in an inconspicuous area.
- Work from high to low or away from the clean area.
- Keep a consistent distance and avoid blasting joints directly.
- Rinse dirty water away from drains, ponds and planting where possible.
- Let the area dry before checking if jointing or sanding needs topping up.
When to Stop
Stop if the surface starts pitting, jointing lifts out, water is forced under seals, or electrics cannot be kept dry.
